Wellesley College is an American private women's college that opened in 1875. It was founded by Henry Fowle Durant and his wife Pauline Fowle Durant. Today, her mission is to "provide an excellent liberal education for women who will make a difference in the world." Its motto, the biblical quote "Non Ministrari sed Ministrare" (Mt 20, 28; 'I have not come to be served, but to serve'), reflects this purpose.

Summary

It is privately owned and located in Wellesley, Massachusetts (13 miles west of Boston). It offers four-year courses, although it also offers a five-year program in conjunction with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He is one of the founders of the group Siete Escuelas Hermanas (Seven Sisters). Approximately 2,300 students attend his classrooms. It is home to the Wellesley Centers for Women, which is made up of the Center for Research on Women and the Stone Center for Developmental Services and Studies.

The current president of Wellesley College is H. Kim Bottomly. Throughout her history, she has always had women as presidents. Wellesley College's average class size ranges from 18 to 21 students, and there are approximately 9 students per teacher. The Wellesley Libraries contain more than 1.5 million cataloged books, newspapers, recordings, maps, and other items. In 2002, its own funds were around one billion dollars. Half of the students receive some type of financial aid since the price of tuition exceeds $36,000 per year.

Wellesley is where the movie Mona Lisa Smile was filmed in 2003. It is recognized for the picturesque beauty of its 2 km² campus that includes Lake Waban and evergreen forests.

Partial story

Founded by Henry and Pauline Fowle Durantula, Wellesley College's charter was signed on March 17, 1870, by Massachusetts Governor William Claflin. Its original name was Wellesley Female Seminary, and the name change to Wellesley College was approved by the Massachusetts legislature on March 7, 1873. Opening day It was September 8, 1875. The first president was Ada L. Howard, followed by Alice E. Freeman (later Alice Freeman Palmer), Helen Almira Shafer, Julia Josephine Thomas Irvine, Caroline Hazard, Ellen Fitz Pendleton, Mildred McAfee (later Mildred McAfee Horton), Margaret Clapp, Ruth M. Adams, Barbara Wayne Newell, Nannerl Overholser Keohane, and Diana Chapman Walsh.
