Zurich Championship
The Zurich Championships or G. P. from Zürich (officially, Züri Metzgete) was a cycling classic held in and around Zürich (Switzerland).
Its first edition was in 1914 and it was held every year without interruption (except in 1915 and 1916, due to the First World War and 2007) until 2014, the year of the last edition. In 1993, its route was completely modified when the organizers changed and it was renamed Swiss Grand Prix until 1999 when it returned to be held in Zurich and recovered its old name. The reason for his disappearance was the impossibility of gathering sponsors that would make the continuity of the race viable. It began to form part of the Cycling World Cup in 1989, until its disappearance in 2004, being held in August. Since 2005 it has been included in the new UCI ProTour, taking place at the beginning of October. On September 7, 2008, it was held again, although as an amateur race won by the German Nico Keinath. Since that year, it has been held only as an amateur.
The cyclist who holds the greatest number of victories is the Swiss Henri Suter, with six victories, between the years 1919 and 1929.
