Zepto (symbol z) is an SI prefix indicating a factor of 10-21.

Adopted in 1991, it comes from the Latin septem, which means «seven», since it is equal to 1/10007.

Some examples of its use:

  • The electric charge of an electron is 160,2176634 zeptocoulombs (zC).
  • A zeptomol (zmol) of a substance contains 602 particles.
  • The human insulin molecule has a mass of approximately 10 zeptograms (zg).
