The term zapatista has been used to refer to various social movements in Mexico and other related concepts:

  • Al Zapatistasa faction of the Mexican Revolution led by Emiliano Zapata, whose name derives the term Zapatista;
  • Al neozapatism, a social movement—and its ideology— linked to the struggle of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN); supporters of this movement tend to be self-denomination Zapatistas but, for historical issues, the term is chosen here neozapatist to differentiate it from the Zapatistas of the Revolution.

It is also a term that refers to:

  • Al South Liberator Army, an insurgent group of the Mexican Revolution, commanded by Emiliano Zapata, which held under its control the state of Morelos; in some sources it appears as Zapatista Army;
  • Al Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN), a guerrilla group, known from 1 January 1994 and operating in the state of Chiapas;
  • Al Zapatista Front of National Liberation (FZLN), a group of civil society that supported the cause of the EZLN, dissolved at the request of the Zapatista Army itself;
  • Al Zapatista uprisinga 12-day rebellion in the state of Chiapas, Mexico;
  • to the Zapatista coffee cooperativesgroups of coffee producers in Chiapas.
