Zambian flag
The national flag of Zambia was adopted on October 24, 1964 and slightly modified in 1996. It was designed by Zambian artist Gabriel Ellison.
Meaning
The Zambian flag is based on that of the United National Independence Party (UNIP). [1]
It is green with an orange eagle in flight over a rectangular block of three vertical colored stripes, from left to right: red, black, and orange. The placement of the eagle and striped block on the left of the flag is notable as most of the emblems and devices on flags are placed in the center or next to the flagstaff. The colors used in the Zambian flag are rich in symbolism. Green denotes the lush flora of the nation, red for the nation's struggle for freedom, black for the people of Zambia, and orange for the land's natural resources and mineral wealth. Also, the eagle flying above the colored stripes is meant to represent the ability of people to overcome the country's problems. [2]
