Etymology
The name Xōchitepēc 'on the flowery hill' comes from the words of the Nahuatl language, xōchi- 'flower', tepē- 'hill' and -c 'in'. After having an indigenous culture of great splendor settled in the Cerro de las Flores and various places in the valley due to the constant movement of trade and the political interests of the same colony, it gradually disappeared until it became a town that provided services, as well as The trade that developed in the port of Acapulco gave rise to the route that goes from Mexico to Acapulco known as the Camino Real, influencing the development or disappearance of some indigenous populations.
Tourism
It should be noted that since the mid-nineties, of the last century, said federal entity has had a highway system, a first level airport, as well as several hotel chains that together with the proximity to Mexico City make up one of the main tourist destinations in the center of the country. However, this recreational activity can be classified as monofunctional or monospecialized, since practically all tourism in the state of Morelos is of the charter type, also known as mass tourism, which is directed towards the city dwellers of the center of the Mexican Republic, who seek to cool off in a spa during the dry season (from March to April, approximately).
It is observed that there is an underutilization of the tourist-cultural potential of the state of Morelos, in effect, the absence of diversification in the tourist offer, or, of specialized services, such as: ecological walks, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, artisanal fishing, canoeing, water rides, hot air balloon rides, cycling, photographic routes, gastronomic routes, regional music festivals, craft or traditional medicine fairs, but above all cultural tourism limits expansion.

It became the first team created in the First Division of Mexico after buying the Atlético Celaya franchise. At the beginning of the 2002 Opening Tournament, the Atlético Celaya team does not improve despite the investment made so that at the end of this season, the president of the team, Enrique Fernández Prado, did not want to sustain it economically and was forced to sell it, although he put the condition that the buyer should keep the squad in Celaya for at least one more year. The franchise was acquired by Jorge Rodríguez Marié, Who once concluded the 2002 Opening Tournament takes the club to Cuernavaca arguing that he did not have the support of Celaya's fans. The team changed its names of Morelos, although they had to play in Xochitepec (population near Cuernavaca) and used the Mariano Matamoros Sports Unit. The club descended in the 2003 Clausura Tournament and disappeared to pay debts contracted with the Mexican Football Federation. The city currently has the whales of Galeana, a team of Morelos that militates in the League of Ascent of Mexico and has as a house the Mariano Matamoros stadium.
