World Development Information Day
The General Assembly of the United Nations decides to establish a World Development Information Day.
Celebration
On October 24, 1945, the Charter of the United Nations - that is, its bases and objectives - came into force, signed by representatives of 50 countries (currently, there are around 200). Its anniversary was also chosen to celebrate World Development Information Day, since the UN considers that dissemination is essential to begin to solve the problems that the world suffers today.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (in English, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD), is the permanent body of the General Assembly of the Organization of Nations United, founded in December 1964.
On December 19, 1972, the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 3038 (XXVII) "decides to establish a World Development Information Day, whose objective will be to mark every year we draw the attention of world public opinion to the problems of development and the need to intensify international cooperation to solve them; Also decides that the date of that day coincides, in principle, with United Nations Day, October 24, which is also the date on which the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Decade was approved in 1970. Mobilization of public opinionAn essential part of development work is to mobilize public opinion, both in developing and in developed countries, in favour of established goals and policies. Governments of the most advanced countries should continue and intensify their efforts to enhance public understanding of the interdependent nature of development efforts and the need to help developing countries accelerate their economic and social progress. Similarly, Governments of developing countries should continue to raise the awareness of the benefits and sacrifices involved in achieving development goals and the importance of their participation.
Mobilizing public opinion is primarily the responsibility of national agencies. Governments may consider the creation of new national agencies or the strengthening of existing ones for this mobilization and, as a long-term measure, to guide further development in education. Taking into account the influence that leaders can have, it is essential to formulate specific objectives by the competent authorities.United Nations
