History of the name
- These lands were inhabited by the Querandíes or also known as Pampas. They were nomads, hunters-gatherers and fishermen. From the lagoon, they used the mud for the elaboration of vessels and mortars; of the otters, the leather to dress. Neighbors have found traces of vessels made by the pampas.
- 1740 is explored the center and south of what would be the Province of Buenos Aires for the First Jesuit Mission. This mission was part of the Rvdo. Father Faulkner was in charge of gathering all the information about the place. It is the one who performs the first hydrographic, flora and fauna of the Prov. of Buenos Aires and Patagonia, where the name “L. Lobos” appears, in reference to the Laguna.
- 1772, based on his writings, is made in London, the first letter concerning this area, registering itself at the foot of the "L. Lobos" lagoon. The water mirror was populated by numerous otters. In those times they were known with the name of wolves of water or river, so it follows that the Laguna could have taken its name from this reference made by the Mission in 1740. The Cabildo of Buenos Aires, March 17, 1752 documents the first time it is called "of Los Lobos" to the lagoon whose name originated from the Fortin of San Pedro de Los Lobos, built in 1779, on the banks of it, in the second advance against the Indian, organized by the Virrey Vertiz. The only cartographic reference to the location of the Fortin is the Plane of 1822, on the journey of the Commission to the Sud, by the Ing. assistant of Artillery Don José María Reyes: it shows the Laguna and between two water courses it is pointed out the existence of the Fortin already destroyed.
- 1802, the Fundación del Pueblo San Salvador de los Lobos, by José Salgado and Pascuala Rivas, from Spain, receive land north of the Fortin, which was already abandoned. According to the story, the founders promise the Virgin of Carmen, to found a town under her patronage.
- 1942-1952 Sport fishing begins, creating the first institution on the shores of the lagoon. At the same time, the plotting of land between the coast and the FFCC tracks begins, calling itself “Villa Logüercio”. The name comes from your last owner, Dr. Vicente Logüercio.
- 1956. Opens its doors the “Hostería El Pescador”, first tourist accommodation in Laguna de Lobos, owned by Mr. Morandi.

Under its thick grove is the Hydrobiological station that is in charge of breeding and planting approximately 50,000 fingerlings per year, which has allowed us to maintain over the years the fundamental tourist attraction of the Lagoon: "Fishing del Pejerrey".
On the Northwest bank, is "Villa Loguercio", in which about 400 permanent inhabitants reside and about 2000 temporary people who stay in numerous weekend houses.
In order to preserve the biodiversity and tranquility characteristic of the place, a majority group of residents presented a signed petition to the Municipal Authorities requesting the declaration of the "Boca" from the Lagoon and surroundings. It should be noted that the Laguna de Lobos, unlike other lagoons in South America, is inventoried as a Latin American Wetland. Its categorization as a wetland responds to the fact that its environments are important for numerous species of waterfowl that reside in or visit said body of water throughout the year. The conservation of this aquatic environment and its related environments would add to the conservation efforts of the biodiversity of the Salado basin.
