Windows CE (also abbreviated as WinCE) is an operating system developed by Microsoft for embedded systems. Windows CE should not be confused with Windows XP Embedded or Windows Embedded Standard 7, which are Windows NT-based systems; Windows CE is independently developed.

The current version of Windows Embedded Compact works on Intel x86 and compatible processors, as well as MIPS and ARM types.

It can be found on smartphones, laptops, Pocket PCs and GPS, Car Multimedia Displays and most notably the Dreamcast video game console.

The last operating system created based on Windows CE was Windows Phone 7 and its updates (7.5 and 7.8)
