William Luna
William Luna Moscoso (Cuzco, December 14, 1967) is a Peruvian singer and composer of Andean music.
Early years
Son of William Luna Rozas and María Moscoso Ojeda, Luna lived his childhood in the Historic Center of the city of Cuzco and in the Andean town of Yucay. He studied at the Salesian College of Cusco, run by Jesuit and Salesian religious, however, he finished his high school at the National College of Sciences of Cusco. Since his school days, he belonged to the Sunday choir of his parish. At the age of eleven, he studied English, learning it before Quechua, due to his mother's encouragement of his approach to English-speaking music.
At the age of fourteen, he learned to play the guitar and began to put to music the songs he had already composed three years ago. Later, he learned piano and entered the Leandro Alviña Miranda Higher Institute of Music in his city, although he did not finish his studies. He also tried to pursue a professional career at the National University of San Antonio de Abad (Agrotechnics, Zoology, Biology and Systems Engineering) thinking that he would not have enough income, only with a musical career.
Career
Luna's childhood was the most important stage of her life according to her own testimony, because it was there that she strengthened her sensitivity and enriched her natural knowledge of the city that surrounded her, since her adolescence. However, the Cuzco origin was the cause of numerous prejudices among the society of those years, so Andean music was not its projection. Luna traveled to Santiago de Chile to forge herself with the Andean identity, it is there where she recorded her first album and her first hit 'Venes y te vas'. Later she released her second album, whose song & # 34; Niñachay & # 34; He won the award from the Latin American Festival of the Union of the People.
He returned to Peru and released the album Mírame, which includes the songs "Vienes y te vas" and "Linda mi cholita", which caught the attention of a large audience and initiated the birth of a new musical genre: contemporary Andean folklore or "trova andina". This accelerated her musical career from her fourth album.
William Luna has given concerts in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Dominican Republic, United States, Canada. He has also done it in Europe, in countries such as: Sweden, Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, France, Switzerland.
Ecuador opened the doors to its musical art and presented it for five consecutive years at the Latin American festival 'Cantos de Libertad', in the city of Quito. This is how he begins to live for long periods in that country. When the young singer and music businessman Pedro Francisco convinces the manager Jaime Rojas of the company Orccus to go on a promotional tour through Ecuador, with all expenses paid, with the guarantee that the businessman has the exclusivity of possible contracts in forward. The first city they visited was Guayaquil, to begin the visit and interviews with the television programs with the largest audience. It was the beginning of making themselves known throughout the northern country, then they traveled to Vinces, where it was not so well received. Due to this, the music businessman did not obtain the guarantee of representation for the following seasons of visits and tours in said country.
In 2005, he traveled to Vancouver (Canada) to perform at the Norman Rothstein Theatre. He was later invited to the United States by the UN, to the Indigenous Peoples Forum. He was later invited to the Beer Festival In 2006 he returned to Canada for the Latino Soy festival, to finally make his first tour of Europe (Spain and Italy). In 2007 he lived for a short period in Stockholm and the following year he participated in the Ecuadorian festival Cantos por la Libertad with the Kjarkas.
He produced the first Andean symphonic concert in Peru and recorded two productions: The best and new of William Luna (originally in 2008) and Traditional Huaynos Seriously - Volume 1. In those days, Luna converted to Protestant Christianity, in which he recorded his first album of spiritual praise and gratitude to Jesus, Refugio. His second production, also as a Christian – In the name of Jesus – took the artist to new directions, the United States and Europe. In the Dominican Republic he established his Christian spirituality and currently carries out his Christian ministry of faith & # 34; León de Judá & # 34;. Additionally, he had a minor role as a religious in the film The City of Kings , directed by Antonio Rugel.
In 2011, Luna was invited by the Adelante political party, chaired by Rafael Belaunde Aubry, and ran for election for the 2011 congress, without achieving his goal by not passing the party's electoral fence, even though he was the most voted of the entire "Adelante" in Lima and abroad.
The Peruvian singer-songwriter Pepe Alva invited him to be part of the Kuska Perú project. In this project, the renowned Andean singers Max Castro and Diosdado Gaytan Castro would also participate. In 2011 Kuska would perform in the country of Argentina at the National Theater of Buenos Aires. Two video clips of the songs were recorded: “Pechito Corazón” and “Valle”. Kuska also toured the interior of Peru.
In 2012, Luna recorded a song titled "Linda wawita" of the composition by Juan Carlos Fernández for the television series Al Fondo Hay Sitio. This song became a success on social networks. In addition, he competed in the dance reality show The big showin 2013.
