F. William Lawvere (Muncie, Indiana, February 9, 1937 – January 23, 2023) was an American philosopher and mathematician.

Teaching career

Adjunct Professor of Philosophy and Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the University at Buffalo. Together with Steve Schanuel, he published a book on categories, Conceptual Mathematics: A First Introduction to Categories , (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1997).
