Early years
Forsythe was born in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from South Shore High School in 1973. She grew up watching films and actors from the golden age of Hollywood with her film-loving mother. His interest in acting arose after being forced to play Caesar in a school performance of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar; Forsythe was ten years old at the time. He continued acting in numerous plays throughout high school and later, at age 17, he moved to Manhattan to try his luck as a professional actor. He found work in summer theaters and other Broadway and off-Broadway shows, including several musicals that allowed him to showcase his abilities as an opera actor.
Forsythe later moved to California, where he toured various studios and casting agencies trying to find work. In an interview, Forsythe confessed to having disguised himself as a gas company employee and even as a telegram interpreter in a gorilla suit in order to enter casting sessions. Finally in the early 1980s he landed some small roles in low-budget films and on television, including roles in Hill Street Blues (1981-87) and an episode of CHiPs. (1977-1983), where he played a vile punk rocker. His first major role came in 1984 when the famous Italian director Sergio Leone chose him to play the Jewish gangster Philip 'Cockeye'. Stein in Once Upon a Time in America, alongside Robert De Niro and James Woods.
Career
He frequently plays 'tough guy' roles, playing criminals or police officers. He also personified the criminal Sammy & # 34; The Bull & # 34; Gravano in the HBO television film Gotti. He played serial killer John Wayne Gacy in Dear Mr. Gacy (2010), a film adaptation of The Last Victim.), the memoirs of Jason Moss, a college student who corresponded with Gacy during his final year on death row. In 2011, he guest starred on the HBO period series Boardwalk Empire, where he played Jewish-Ukrainian gangster Manny Horvitz in the second and third seasons.
