Wikimedia Meta-Wiki (called Meta-Wiki or simply Meta) is a website dedicated to coordinating the projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, like Wikipedia. It has the wiki format.

During the first phase of Wikipedia's existence, discussions about the Wikipedia project and, in particular, about the policies to be followed, frequently took place on Wikipedia itself, although said meta-discussion was not encyclopedic in content.

In addition, some users wanted a forum where they wouldn't have to be constrained by Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, so they could write essays expressing their own opinions on topics covered by the encyclopedia.

In response to these concerns, the writers of Wikipedia created the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki in November 2001.

The Meta-Wiki currently serves as one of the three major discussion channels for Wikipedians, along with the mailing lists and article-specific talk pages (which are reserved for discussion of that particular article).

Originally focused on the English language version of Wikipedia, Meta-Wiki has become, since its update to Phase III of the Wikipedia program, a multilingual discussion forum used by all the linguistic communities of Wikimedia projects.
