Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen is one of the 71 districts into which the German state of Bavaria is administratively divided.

History

The district was formed in 1972 by merging the districts of Gunzenhausen, Weissenburg, and the previously independent urban district of Weissenburg.

Coat of arms

The district coat of arms is divided into three parts: left, right and bottom. The lower part of the coat of arms derives from the Counts of Pappenheim, and was taken from the coat of arms of the old Weissenburg district. The half eagle on the right side represents the city of Weissenburg, and the horizontal bars on the left were taken from the coat of arms of the former Gunzenhausen district.
