Warnes
Warnes is a city and municipality in Bolivia, capital of the province of Ignacio Warnes in the department of Santa Cruz. The city is located 30 km north of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and at an altitude of 340 m a.s.l. no. m.. Warnes has 214,216 inhabitants in 2020 and is located within the Santa Cruz de la Sierra metropolitan area.
History
It is believed that Warnes and Paurito are the oldest communities, according to the researcher P. Adrián Melgar y Montaño, in 1760, in an agricultural establishment of the Presbítero José Molina Campos, he ordered the construction of a Chapel and gradually the town arose around it.
In 1790 Fr. Molina Campos appeared as chaplain. He had the name of "Enconada", Dr. Plácido Molina M. says that this name would be mispronunciation of "RINCONADA". Father José Molina Campos is considered the founder of the town, according to the book Historia de Santa Cruz.
In 1891 the population took the definitive name of Warnes in homage to the Caudillo and Hero of Independence, the Argentine colonel Ignacio Warnes.
Climate
The climate of Warnes can be classified as a tropical savannah climate (Aw), according to the Köppen climate classification.
Economy
Warnes is both an industrial and tourist town, this combination makes it an attractive place for all arriving visitors. Among its industries, the IPILCRUZ dairy products processing plant, the Warnes cement factory, the collection center of the FINO oil factory, Sobolma, Industrias Venado, Cerámica Norte, Incerpaz, the ABD medicine factory, the fertilizer factory stand out. chemicals, Telares Santa Cruz, TERMOELECTRICA WARNES, will soon have a wind farm and others.
National Route 4 passes through the municipality, linking the cities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Cochabamba, where the Viru Viru International Airport is also located.
Due to an agreement with the Municipal Government of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the Warnes municipality receives a percentage of the customs revenues generated by the Viru Viru International Airport. This participation has turned the municipality of Warnes into one of the most economically solid in the country.
Tourism
In Warnes there are the Hotel Río Selva and the Sociedad Rural del Oriente that attract different visitors. Also there are the water parks Aqualand and PlayLand Park. You can also visit the cathedral of Warnes where the Virgen del Rosario is venerated.
