Warab State
Warab (English: Warrap, Arabic: واراب Warab) is one of the ten states that make up South Sudan. Located in the ancient region of Bar el Gazal, it occupies an area of 31,027 km² and has an estimated population of 1,700,000 inhabitants (2007). Warab is the state capital, although this will be replaced by Kuajok. It is bordered by the states of Western Bar el Gazal to the southwest, Northern Bar el Gazal to the northwest, Lagos to the southeast and Unity to the east.
Warab occupies a plain that rises between 390 m s. n. m. in the areas near the Nahr al Jūr river that crosses the state from the northeast to the west and another area to the south a little higher that reaches 540 m s. n. m. in the South National Park.
The most important city in the state is Tonj, the towns of Gogrial, Kuajok and Thiet also stand out. It is home to the Rek sub-tribe which is part of the Dinka tribe.
The road network in the area is precarious, since none of the roads are paved, the two main roads are the A43 that connects Tonj with the capital of South Sudan, Juba, and the B38 road that connects with the north of South Sudan. country.
In April 2010 Nyandeng Malek Deliech was elected as governor of Warab state, the first woman elected to this position in Sudan, the governor replaced Tor Deng Mawien who previously held the position.
