A wampa is a fictional creature from the Star Wars film series, appearing in The Empire Strikes Back.

They are white-furred, eight-foot-tall bipeds that dwell in the caverns of the ice planet Hoth. They are carnivorous, feeding mainly on tauntauns.

Wampas differ physically based on their sex: females do not have horns, while males have a pair that sprouts from the sides of their heads, twisting forward. These beasts usually live in caves where they store their food and live in pairs and very small families.

Luke Skywalker was attacked by a male wampa and was taken to his cavern. There, the beast hung him from the ceiling of the cave. To do this, the wampa used his saliva, which when frozen acted like a glue. When Luke regained consciousness he found himself upside down and looking at a female wampa finishing his meal. The skilled Jedi initiate managed to cut off an arm with his lightsaber and escape in time, leaving the beast inside the cavern writhing in pain.
