Wallace Breen

The Dr. Wallace Breenis a character from the Half-Life video game series. He is the former administrator of the Black Mesa Research Center, appointed as the leader of Earth by the Alliance.

Character design

In the early stages of production on Half-Life 2, the appearance of Dr. Wallace Breen as Earth's leader was preceded by another ultimately abandoned figure, the Consul. The latter was a heavily modified cybernetic organism, without However, he possessed a human-looking bust that allowed him to simulate a non-existent humanity. Highly inspired by the metaphorical figure of the police and the totalitarian regime Big Brother, a figure from 1984, the consul is placed at the heart of propaganda through a cult of personality. Character biography

Half-Life

Dr. Wallace Breen does not appear directly in the game, but is referred to as the administrator of Black Mesa, especially when Gordon Freeman is about to enter the test chamber. Half-Life 2

This speech can be heard in City 17 on giant screens both at the station and on the street. Dr. Breen defends the reproductive suppression field established by the cartel that prevents human reproduction, the technology used is described in Half-Life 2: Episode One by Isaac Kleiner as an obstacle to "the formation of certain protein chains necessary for embryonic development', a technology dependent on the Citadel since when it is damaged, the field is deactivated. Wallace Breen discusses the perpetuation of humanity, stating that the immortality of humanity as a species is "within reach." The temporary cessation of human reproduction would serve a long-term vision of Man, allowing the Universal Union to organize a genetic selection necessary for the evolution of the species. The latter would suppress, among other things, the human instinct, which causes "irrational impulses" and would lead humanity down a progressive path of extinction. The Free Man

Wallace Breen speaks directly to Dr. Freeman to remind him that the use of force against the Universal Union can only lead to retaliation that humanity cannot face. According to him, the Universal Union would have lost the trust it had in humanity and could now consider itself deceived by Breen's beautiful words. Being a member of the Alliance empire would be the only alternative to the extinction of the human species. Wallace points out that his goal of saving humanity is common and there is no point in competing.

The Militia
