Wachowski Sisters
Lana Wachowski (Chicago, Illinois, June 21, 1965) and Lilly Wachowski (Chicago, Illinois, December 29, 1967), known as The Wachowski sisters or the Wachowskis, are American film directors, screenwriters and producers, creators of the Matrix saga. Both are transgender women.
Biography
Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski were born and raised in Chicago, starting a carpentry business while creating comics in their spare time. They claim to opt for telling multiple stories, avoiding everything predictable and boring. Lilly, a graduate of Emerson College, married Alisa Blasingame in 1991. Lana married Thea Bloom in 1993; after divorcing in 2002, he married a second time to Karin Winslow (aka Ilsa Strix, ex-wife of transgender pornographic actor Buck Angel) in 2009. [citation needed ]
Transition process
Shortly after the release of The Matrix Reloaded, it was rumored that Lana Wachowski, without mentioning her transition in the media, had begun making public appearances dressed as a female gender expression and identifying herself by the name woolen. In his column, published on May 30, 2003, David Poland said that “all the information I have indicates that Larry Wachowski is in the process of gender transition. He dresses in public as a woman, he is taking female hormones and yes, he is going to undergo a sex change operation ». This rumor was sustained by an article in the San Francisco Chronicle from March 2006. The article, which focused on transgender people, repeated that she "has changed her sex and now lives as Lana Wachowski." The rumor was also exacerbated by Lana's alleged penchant for dressing with a female gender expression, as reported by Rolling Stone magazine.
Nevertheless, in a 2007 interview with Joel Silver, producer of numerous Wachowski sisters films, he said that all the rumors regarding Lana's sex change were "absolutely false", clarifying that "it just doesn't concede interviews, so people make stuff up." Similar statements were made by various workers on the film Speed Racer (2008). However, at a press conference given in September 2012 at the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of Cloud Atlas, Lana went public with her gender change. Already like Lana, she said: "I felt a certain responsibility for LGBT people, and some people have asked me to be more public. I knew that one day it would have to be more public and we had to negotiate when this would happen. With this film, which talks about how to transcend our fear and the limits of the 'other' in so many ways, it seemed quite natural to do it now," she concluded.
On March 8, 2016, her sister Lilly, during an interview with the Chicago LGBT newspaper Windy City Times, stated that she was also a transgender woman.[citation needed ]
