Visa

ImprimirCitar

A visa or visado (from the Latin charta visa, paper that has been seen) is an authorization granted by a country, typically to a foreign citizen, to temporarily enter the territory, or to leave it. The visa is a document issued by the receiving country to indicate that the traveler is admissible. Generally, the physical permit is stamped in the applicant's passport.

Visas indicate—but do not guarantee—the admission of foreigners to a recipient country. Most countries exempt certain nationalities from the visa requirement, typically through bilateral agreements between the country of the person's nationality and the country of destination. In Hispanic America, in 2022, the Chilean passport was the one that allowed you to visit the most countries without having to obtain a visa (174); Contrast this with the Ecuadorian, to which only 92 countries granted the right to arrive without a visa.

Types of visa

There are different types of visa or visa:

  • Transit visa: It is used so that a person who should scale in one country and then go to another, can stay on this scale usually in a maximum of 3 days.
  • Tourist Visa: It is used for people who wish to visit a country for the purpose of knowing it, as a tourist, and it is not allowed for the person to do business within the country to which he or she is visited or to work on it, just spend money. Unlike other visas, this is usually free. It usually lasts from 1 to 3 months.
  • Work visa: Used only for purposes of working, as long as a destination country company hires it for such purposes. It's longer in time and renewable.
  • Student visa: It is used for the effects of a person who is enrolled in an educational centre in the country of destination. As your name says, it is a visa to study in that country.
  • Diplomatic visa: It is used for persons holding a diplomatic office to visit such a country for diplomatic purposes such as official visits of presidents or embassy effects.
  • Journalist visa: Used by those journalism professionals can exercise for a period of time to cover certain events that are taking place in that country, of a relevant nature or research.
  • Marriage visa: It is used for those who marry a person who possesses nationality from the country of destination.
  • Entry visa: It is an authorization to be able to present itself to a country of destination, and apply for formal entry there (it is important to note that the sole possession of this visa does not guarantee entry to the country, this can only be decided by the migration officer). This is a way that governments have to control the transit of foreigners. These visas are of two types: passports, which allow access to a country for a defined duration visit, and immigration visas, which represent an authorization to reside in the country permanently. The seconds require many more requirements and it is usually difficult to obtain.
  • Exit visa: It is the one that some countries require their citizens when they want to travel abroad. These are visas that are required for the abandonment of a country that is in unfavourable political, social or economic conditions.
