Villagelanguage
Aldealengua is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of Las Villas. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca and to the Mancomunidad La Armuña.
Its municipal area is made up of a single population center, occupies a total area of 5.48 km² and according to the demographic data collected in the municipal register prepared by the INE in 2017, it has a population of 677 inhabitants (351 men and 345 women).
The population center extends along the SA-804 highway, towards its left bank. On the other side of the road runs the Tormes river, which acts as the municipal boundary. It is surrounded by important towns such as Cabrerizos, Aldearrubia and San Morales. It is a fairly flat town. Combine old houses with new constructions. It has its own Town Hall, municipal sports center, doctor's office, tobacconist, church, club for the elderly, bakery and bar. It also has a recreational area and a sports court. In the sports center, normally, tennis matches are played and some years recreational activities for young children.
Aldelengua also has a small bus network, first going to the town of Aldearrubia and later passing through Aldelengua, to go to Salamanca. Another night bus goes the opposite way heading from Salamanca to Aldealengua and Alderarrubia
The church is dedicated to Santiago Apóstol, located in the main altarpiece, to which they had great devotion. Some rooms were prepared to receive pilgrims, who rested and then continued on their route. These left the town by the "Camino de Santiaguillo".
The church is completed around the 15th century century. It was built on the remains of another from the XII-XIII century, in the Romanesque-Mudejar style. It has been rehabilitated a few years ago.
Aldelaengua has a provincial road that connects it with the surrounding municipalities, used by most of the people who live there. It is also surrounded by roads that connect it with other towns that do not have a provincial highway as such. The Tormes River also passes through Aldelaengua, where recreational activities such as rowing, swimming or even camping in the forests around the river are carried out.
Etymology
Its original name in the Middle Ages was Aldealuenga, which would be translated in the Leonese spoken at that time in the locality by "aldea lejana" or "long village".
History
Its foundation dates back to the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, being integrated into the quarter of Villoria of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León, being called "Aldealuenga" in the XIII century. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Aldealengua was included in the province of Salamanca, within of the Leonese Region.
