Villa Fiorito is a city located in the northwest of the Partido-municipio de Lomas de Zamora, in the southern zone of the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA). This town borders the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, being separated from each other by the Matanza-Riachuelo river. The access that unites Villa Fiorito and the Argentine capital is the Puente de la Noria.

It was declared a city in 1995 by Mayor Bruno Tavano and has more than a century of history.

Also inhabited by Italian immigrants, who brought the Virgen de Nuestra Señora de la Abundancia to the neighborhood. Groups of Spaniards from Galicia also arrived in the 1940s. Currently, immigration comes from neighboring countries such as Bolivia and Paraguay, as well as Chile, which makes Fiorito a melting pot of cultures. The neighborhood is growing with new asphalt, and the piping of the Unamuno stream. It also has a shopping center with the greatest diversity of items in the area.

There is a bill for the creation of the Partido de La Ribera, made up of land from the current party of Lomas de Zamora. For this, the city of La Noria would be created from the unification of Villa Fiorito with Ingeniero Budge.

Its population in the last census was 42,904 inhabitants (Indec, 2001), being the 5th most populous unit in the party, with 7.3% of the total.

Locals

The following famous people were born or lived during their childhood and adolescence in Villa Fiorito:

  • Diego Armando Maradona (1960-2020): soccer player and coach. World champion with the selection of Argentina in 1986. Born circumstantially in Lanús West.
  • Héctor Yazalde (1946-1997): footballer, international with the Argentine soccer team at the World Cup in Germany 1974.
  • Claudio García (1963-): former footballer of Huracán, Racing Club and the Argentine selection, among others.
  • Antonio Rios (1954-): musician and popular singer. Born in La Escondida, Chaco province.
  • Raúl "Richard" Rosales: musician. Guitarist of the tropical band Ráfaga.
  • Ulysses Piñeyro: musician and rapper. Former tropical group Red and current member of Ráfaga.
  • Facundo Medina (1999): professional footballer, current player of Lens and the Argentine team.
  • Franco Fernández "the fat one" (2008-2018): Featured footballer of the Fc Cartoneros, he was also a recognized player of clash royale (+6000 glasses). The same, has a direct archaetype of the Palavecino Chaqueño.
