Vicuña Mackenna (station)
Vicuña Mackenna is a railway combination station that is part of the Santiago de Chile Metro network.
The station of Line 4 and Line 4A is located in the central strip of the trench of the Vespucio Sur highway and preceded by the Santa Julia station, while the line 4 station is located in the lower part of the highway, between the Macul and Vicente Valdés stations. The station is located in the commune of La Florida.
The station has been closed since October 18, 2019, due to the damage that occurred to the metro network during the series of protests over the fare increase. The line 4 stop reopened on November 18, while the line 4A stop reopened on November 25.
Environment and features
In the immediate surroundings of the station, there is the Plaza Vespucio Mall to the east, a Homecenter Sodimac store to the west; Nearby are also the Líder and Tottus hypermarkets and the Alistore store where the extinct Montserrat supermarket was previously located, within a residential and commercial area, with high vehicular traffic along the Vespucio Sur Highway and the immediate Vicuña Mackenna Avenue. The local Florida Ombudsman's Office is also nearby. Its passenger flow is moderate-high, mainly due to the large flow of pedestrians that the aforementioned places attract. The station has an average daily flow of 18,940 passengers.
It should be noted that this station is different from all the other stations on the network, since it had 5 tracks and 4 platforms thinking about routes Tobalaba - Puente Alto and Tobalaba - La Cisterna through branch 4A, a plan that was never implemented. was completed, leaving the central road practically without commercial use. But since March 2013, with a new remodeling, there is only one large central platform, on which trains in the direction of Tobalaba and Puente Alto can be boarded, these being through the left door of the train direction, contrary to the entire network.

Etymological origin
Its name is due to the proximity of the station to Avenida Vicuña Mackenna, which is located a few meters further west along Avenida Américo Vespucio.
The name of the street remembers Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, a politician who served as mayor of Santiago between 1872 and 1875 and as a parliamentarian in various periods. He was a presidential candidate for the presidential elections of 1876, being defeated by Aníbal Pinto.
