He participated in the Eurocups in France (1984) and Germany (1988), and in the World Cup in Mexico (1986). In 1988 he was hired by one of the most outstanding teams in the Italian league, Sampdoria, where, along with players like Cerezo, Mancini and Vialli, he completed two notable seasons. His international career continued with the Scottish club Saint Mirren in the 1990-1991 season. After a brief stint as sports director of Real Zaragoza (1992-1993), in February 1995 he went on to train Mallorca, with whom he developed an excellent final third of the championship and which he was on the verge of being promoted to the First Division. At the end of the 1996-1997 season, when Mallorca remained the leader of the Second Division, he was incomprehensibly dismissed. In the 1997-1998 season he continued his work as coach at Logroñés. He then directed Lleida, until June 2000, when he signed for Villarreal, with whom he will make his debut in the First Division as coach. With Sampdoria he won the Italian Cup (1989), the European Cup Winners' Cup (1990) and was runner-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup (1989).
