Victor Burgin (Sheffield, England, 1941) is a prominent English artist and essayist.

Biography

He studied Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art before traveling to the United States where he continued his training at Yale University.

Burgin was initially recognized as a conceptual artist. He worked in photography and film, and called painting as "anachronistic practice to smear cotton fabric."

Burgin has been a professor at Goldsmiths College, the University of California, Santa Cruz.

In 1986, Burgin was nominated for the Turner Prize.
