Veronica Forqué
Verónica Forqué Vázquez-Vigo (Madrid, December 1, 1955-Madrid, December 13, 2021) was a Spanish actress and director, awarded four Goya Awards.
In his notable filmography, he stood out for participating in films directed by Pedro Almodóvar such as What have I done to deserve this? and Kika. He worked with acclaimed directors, including Carlos Saura, Luis García Berlanga and Fernando Trueba. She was also selected by Stanley Kubrick for the Spanish dubbing of Shelley Duvall in The Shining.
Despite having an extensive career in film and television, Forqué made it known in several interviews that working in the theater was what he liked to do most as an artist.
Biography
She was the daughter of the director and producer José María Forqué and the writer Carmen Vázquez-Vigo, sister of the director Álvaro Forqué (1953-2014) and granddaughter of the musician and composer José Vázquez Vigo.
He studied dramatic art and began a degree in psychology, the latter never completed. She began in the world of cinema working in her father's films in the early seventies, until she became a comedy actress during the eighties, a period in which she won various Goya Awards.
The big leap in Verónica Forqué's film career came when Pedro Almodóvar turned her into the endearing Cristal in What have I done to deserve this? (1984).
Throughout his career he worked with Fernando Trueba in Sé unfaithful and don't look with who and The year of lights, a film for which he earned his first Goya as a supporting actress.
His friendship with Fernando Colomo resulted in two highly successful comedies Bajarse al moro and La vida Alejo, for this last film, he was awarded his first Goya as leading actress; and in that same year, she (1988) also won a second Goya as a supporting actress for Moors and Christians, by Luis García Berlanga. She was the first female performer to win two Goyas in the same ceremony, something that would not happen until 29 years later, when actress Emma Suárez in 2017 also won two Goyas in the same year.
At the beginning of the nineties, he began his collaboration with Manuel Gómez Pereira in the comedies Salsa rosa or Why do they call it love when they mean sex?, a collaboration that It was repeated in 2005 with Reinas. In 1993, she won a fourth Goya for her leading role in Kika, by Pedro Almodóvar, with whom he had previously worked in What have I done to deserve this? and Matador .

Also on television he gained great popularity, in series such as Ramón y Cajal (1982), The Garden of Venus (1983), Platos rotos i> (1988), Eva and Adán, marriage agency (1990-1991) and Pepa and Pepe (1995). Between 2014 and 2015 she participated in the eighth season of the fiction series La que se cerca, playing the secondary character of Teresa Sáenz de Tejada –mayor–.
In the theater, the role of Carmela stands out in the first performance of José Sanchis Sinisterra's play, Ay, Carmela! (1986). Other important works to his credit are: Sublime decision! (1984), Bajarse al moro (1985), also part of the film version by Fernando Colomo, Doña Rosita the Bachelorette (2004), The Queen Bee (2009) and Shirley Valentine (2011). As stage director she was in charge of staging the play Adulterios , by Woody Allen in 2009.
Personal life and death

As for her personal life, in the summer of 1980 she began a romance with fellow actor Joaquín Kremel. In 1981, she married film director Manuel Iborra, whom she divorced in 2014. They had a daughter together, María Clara Iborra Forqué.
On December 13, 2021, he committed suicide at his home in Madrid by hanging. In 2014 he had suffered severe depression due to his divorce after three decades of marriage, an illness about which he spoke openly. In addition, the actress had already tried to cause her death on at least one other occasion recently.
