Vault of the Almar River

Bóveda del Río Almar is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of Tierra de Peñaranda. It belongs to the judicial district of Peñaranda and the Commonwealth of Peñaranda.

Its municipal area is made up of a single population center, it occupies a total area of 23.01 km² and according to the demographic data collected in the municipal register prepared by the INE in 2017, it has a population of 237 inhabitants.

Toponymy

The place name "Bóveda del Río Almar" would be directly related to that of "Bovatam, in rivulum de Almar", collected in the year 1107 in a document of King Alfonso VI of León, preserved in the Diocesan Archive of Salamanca, owing the "del Río Almar" to the location of the town next to the Almar river.

History

The first document in which Bóveda del Río Almar appears dates from December 30, 1107, the date on which a document of King Alfonso VI of León is dated, in which " Bovatam, in rivulum de Almar", as one of the donations made to the bishopric of Salamanca, confirmed by the Leonese monarch in said document. Later, still in the Middle Ages, Bóveda became part of the Community of Villa and Tierra de Ávila, in the Sexmo de San Vicente, as well as the bishopric of Avila until 1833, when it became part of the province of Salamanca and the Leonese Region, becoming part of the judicial district of Peñaranda de Bracamonte.
