Uppsala Province
The uppsala province is one of Sweden's 21 administrative provinces and is located in the center-east of the country. It lies between Mälaren in the south and the Gulf of Bothnia in the north. Its capital is Uppsala.
History
The county was formed in 1641 from Upplands län, returned to it in 1649-1652 and 1655 to finally become its own county from 1714.
In 1971, the current Knivsta Municipality and the then Östhammar Municipality were transferred here from Stockholm County. At the same time, the municipality of Upplands-Bro was transferred to Stockholm County from Uppsala County. Knivsta Municipality was newly formed in 2003 through a break-off of the Uppsala Municipality from the area that before the merger in 1971 formed the Knivsta County Municipality.
On September 22, 2005, the Riksdag decided to transfer the municipality of Heby in Västmanland county to Uppsala county. The amendment entered into force on January 1, 2007.
Geography
The province has an area of 6,889 km², which in terms of size is about half the size of Montenegro. It borders the provinces of Stockholm, Södermanland, Västmanland, and Gävleborg. The capital is the city of Uppsala, which is located in the southern part of the province. With about &&&&&&&&&0200000.&&&&&0200,000 inhabitants, concentrates more than 50% of the population of the province.
The low, flat surface of the province is drained by the Fyris River.
Administration
It has a civil government, or länsstyrelse, which is headed by a governor appointed by the Swedish government. It also has a provincial council or landsting, which is the municipal representation appointed by the province's electorate.
The Uppsala Regional Council (RC) is a forum for political decision-making in the province, where the highest political and decision-making body is the Council Assembly. The CR is made up of the Provincial Council and its eight municipalities: Enköping, Heby, Håbo, Knivsta, Tierp, Uppsala, Älvkarleby and Östhammar.

Economy
Some varieties of grains and potatoes are grown in Uppsala province, and there is also a fledgling dairy and cattle-raising industry. Its main iron ore deposits are in the region around Dannemora, and the province counts several steel mills and mills. In addition, there is a hydroelectric power plant located in Älvkarleby.
