University School of Aeronautical Technical Engineering (Polytechnic University of Madrid)

The University School of Aeronautical Technical Engineering (EUITA) is a center of the Polytechnic University of Madrid that teaches the necessary studies to obtain the title of Aeronautical Technical Engineer.

The School is located within the University City of Madrid, it consists of two buildings, the first inaugurated in 1989 and the second in 2003, and is next to the ETSI Aeronáuticos, with which it shares a library, cafeteria and parking, and together with the ETSI Navales. In 2012 it had 1,342 students enrolled.

Official qualifications given

The current study plan (known as Plan 2002) began to be taught in the 2002-2003 academic year and includes five specialties that lead to the respective five degrees:

  • Aircraft
  • Aeromotors
  • Airports
  • Aeronavega
  • Aerospace equipment and materials

The Plan 2002 was an update of the Plan 1971, which included these five specialties:

  • Aircraft
  • Aeromotors
  • Navigation and air traffic
  • Airports and air transportation
  • Aircraft materials and air weapons.

History

Created in 1939, it was initially called Assistant School of the Military Academy of Aeronautical Engineers, and in 1957 it came under the Ministry of Education under the name Technical School of Aeronautical Experts. The School took its current name in 1964 and became part of the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1972.

Since the end of 2007, and within the restructuring implied by the European Higher Education Area, a process is underway for the union of the EUIT Aeronáutica with the ETSI Aeronáuticos in a single center. On March 31, In 2009, the Higher Technical School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering was officially created, since then in charge of imparting and organizing the new degree titles. The EUIT Aeronáutica and the ETSI Aeronáuticos will disappear when the extinction process of the current titles concludes.
