Uefa
The Union of European Football Federations (French: Union des Associations Européennes de Football), commonly referred to by its acronym UEFA is the European confederation of national football associations and the highest body for this sport on the continent. It currently groups 55 associations and is one of the six confederations belonging to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the highest rector in the world.
Founded on June 15, 1954, its headquarters are located in Nyon, Switzerland, and it is in charge of organizing the different championships of European nations, as well as promoting, developing, controlling and overseeing football, its tasks, finances, regulations and means thereof, being the Eurocup, officially the European Nations Championship, its main men's tournament, and the Women's Eurocup, officially the Women's European Championship, its women's counterpart. In the same way, he is the one who deals with the different issues of the national federations of the European territory, as well as their training football, also organizing competitions for said categories, making up a total of 15 tournaments among all disciplines.
It is the most successful continental association in the FIFA field, as it has a total of 223 official titles among all its member teams, including 41 world titles, as well as being the most recognized. Among them, Germany (DFB), stands out. which is to be the most awarded in Europe with 46 titles; Spain (RFEF), which is its most awarded member on the continent with 41 titles; and France (FFF), which was twice world champion and the most decorated in world competitions with seven trophies in men's soccer.
The main competition in terms of clubs is the Champions League, both in the men's category —disputed for the first time in 1955—, and in the women's category —established in 2001—. In them the Spanish clubs dominate with 19 titles and the Germans with 9 respectively.
It is the third oldest continental confederation, and the one with the most members, the last to join the Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) —as a partially internationally recognized state— on May 3, 2016.
History
The European Union of Football Associations (in French, Union Européenne de Football Association) was founded on June 15, 1954 in Basel, Switzerland, due to the prevailing needs in continental European football, until then without a governing body. That is why it arises after a consensus of three of the most recognized federations of the time, the Italian Federation (FIGC), the French Federation (FFF) and the Belgian Federation (KBVB/URBSFA). To date, it was the federations of each country that oversaw this sport in each region following the FIFA regulations, and that it began to become international in the territory thanks above all to friendly matches and the first club competitions.
Notable among them were the Central European Cup and the South European Latin Cup, both considered predecessors of the current Champions League (originally the European Cup), which was the first official competition launched by the organization in 1955. However, since its founding, it was already immersed in the creation of a European national team competition that finally saw the light of day in 1960, the European Nations Cup, better known as the Euro Cup. Both are currently two of the most prestigious football competitions in the world, and precisely the promoter of the latter, Henri Delaunay, was the first secretary general of the organization while Ebbe Schwartz was its first president.
Its headquarters were located in Paris, France, until it was transferred to Bern in 1959 and later in 1995 to Nyon, Switzerland, where it is still located. Known simply by its acronym UEFA is defined in the statute of the organization as the abbreviation of its name in French, however it is commonly associated with the English Union of European Football Associations .
The organization is one of the strongest and most recognized of the six world confederations, due to the importance of its members, among which are several of the main associations, leagues and soccer teams in the world. An example of this is that FIFA awarded UEFA 13 of the 32 participant berths for the 2014 World Cup that was held in Brazil.
At the organizational level, it promotes club competitions, such as the aforementioned Champions League and the Europa League (originally the UEFA Cup), or national team competitions, the main one being the Eurocup (officially the European Nations Championship), all at the masculine level. In the women's category, it also organizes the Champions League and the Euro Cup in clear recognition and legitimacy of the boom that women's football currently has.
Associate Members
There are 55 football associations that belong to UEFA. Those represented are all nations geographically within Europe with the exception of the Vatican and Monaco, which are also not represented in FIFA or any other Continental Football Confederation. To these are added Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia (located in the Caucasus, their geographical belonging to Europe or Asia is discussed); Israel and Cyprus (geographically in Asia, although politically always associated with Europe); and Russia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan (mostly in Asia and with a minor portion in Europe).
It is important to mention that the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) participate separately (this exception only occurs in football, rugby, cricket and other sports whose origin is from the countries of the Commonwealth, including the United Kingdom, or of Ireland), the autonomous archipelago of the Faroe Islands competes independently of Denmark. Israel was part of the Asian Football Confederation until it was expelled in 1974 due to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Kazakhstan was also formerly a member of the AFC. Gibraltar (a British territory claimed by Spain) and Kosovo (a partially recognized state) were accepted as members of UEFA on 3 May 2016, and as members of FIFA 10 days later.
* Formerly a member of the OFC, and formerly a member of the AFC.

To date only five European clubs (Juventus FC in 1985, AFC Ajax in 1992, Bayern Munich in 1996, Chelsea FC in 2013 and Manchester United F.C. in 2017) have won, at least once, each of the three main UEFA competitions (European Champion Clubs' Cup/UEFA Champions League, European Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League). The Italian club, as the first club in the history of European football to achieve this event, was awarded in recognition of the "UEFA Plaque" (en. The UEFA Plaque) by the European Union of Football Associations in Geneva, Switzerland, on July 12, 1988.
Juventus is also the only club in Europe that has won all the international competitions organized by the European soccer confederation.
