Tultepec Municipality
The municipality of Tultepec is one of the 125 municipalities into which the state of Mexico is divided for its internal regime. It is located north of the Valley of Mexico and its head is the city of Tultepec. The population of the capital and a large part of the municipality are characterized by the manufacture and trade of fireworks.
Geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the state in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. Its extreme geographic coordinates are north latitude 19° 38' - 19° 42' north latitude and 99° 04' - 99° 08' west longitude; It is located at an altitude of 2,200 to 2,400 meters above sea level. The municipal territory is 28,856 square kilometers, and according to the 2010 Population Census, it registers a population density of 3418.53 inhabitants/km².
It limits to the northeast with the municipality of Nextlalpan and to the northwest with Melchor Ocampo, to the east with an exclave in Tultitlán, to the southeast with Coacalco de Berriozábal, to the south with another sector of the municipality of Tultitlán, and to the west with Cuautitlán.
Orography
The orography of the municipality is made up of the Otzolotepec hill (known as Cerro del Tule) which is the only considerable elevation in the municipality, the rest of the municipality is on a plain.
Hydrography
Hydrography is made up of:
Córdoba River, which is a branch of the Cuautitlán River derived from the Pila Real de Atlamica whose waters come from Lake Guadalupe and are used by users of the Cuautitlán Irrigation Unit for small property irrigation.
Río Chico is also a branch of the Cuautitlán River and feeds the Teyahualco ejido which irrigates approximately 200 hectares.
In the northern part of the municipality is the Castera canal, which is connected to the Teoloyucan irrigation system.
Climate
The climate corresponds to temperate sub-humid with rains in summer, with temperatures between 28 and 6 °C, from May to July are the hottest months and from December to February the coldest. The average annual rainfall is 700 mm.
Land use characteristics
The land of Tultepec is destined for agricultural use 56.84%, livestock 2.7%, industrial 2%, urban 31% and others with 7.4%.

Demographics
According to the results of the 2010 Population and Housing Census carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, the total population of the municipality of Tultepec is 91,808 inhabitants, of whom 44,841 are men and 46,967 are women.

Politics
The government of the municipality of Tultepec corresponds to its city council, which is made up of the municipal president, a trustee and a council made up of 10 councilors, six of whom are elected by relative majority and four by the principle of proportional representation. The municipal president, the trustee and the six majority councilors are elected by means of a single list by popular, universal, direct and secret vote for a period of three years without re-election.
All elected officials take office on January 1 of the year following the election.
