The trapezium bone (from the Greek τράπεζα 'table') is a bone in the human hand. It is a carpal bone, in the section commonly referred to as the wrist. It articulates distally with the first (thumb) metacarpal, forming the (morphological) saddle or reciprocal socket trapezometacarpal joint (2 axes and 2 degrees of freedom), and proximally with the scaphoid bone. It also articulates with the trapezoid bone and the second metacarpal.
