Puebla de Vallbona (in Valencian and officially La Pobla de Vallbona) is a town and a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is located in the province of Valencia, in the region of Campo de Turia and the sub-region of La Vallbona, 22.6 km from Valencia. It had a registered population of 25,625 inhabitants in 2022 (INE). It belongs to the second crown of the Valencia metropolitan area.

Toponymy

The original place name, La Pobla de Vallbona, refers to the context of its foundation: it is a pobla (in Spanish 'puebla'), that is, a population center, settled in the region of La Vallbona. This last term literally means 'good valley' in Spanish and is probably related to the fecundity of the area.[quote required] The popular etymology of the term, without historical foundation, is that King Jaime I would have affirmed when he saw the valley: «Vall bona per a un poblament» ('Good valley for a population') or «Quina vall més bona» ('What a good valley').

Demographics

Population

Puebla de Vallbona had 150 families (about 675 inhabitants) at the end of the XVI century, all of them Christians. The expulsion of the Moriscos from the neighboring towns in 1609 caused transfers to abandoned houses and lands (Ribarroja del Turia, Villamarchante and Benaguacil), leaving only 70 families (about 315 inhabitants) in Puebla de Vallbona in 1646 and 60 (about 270 inhabitants) in 1713. The population began to rise again in the 18th century and especially throughout the XIX. The most recent growth is due to the immigration of families from Valencia, who occupy part of the many chalets that have been built in its term.
