The 92nd edition of the Tour de France began on July 2, 2005 in the Vendée region of France and ended on July 24 in Paris, in the classic finale on the Champs-Élysées.
The route of this Tour was announced on October 28, 2004 at the Paris Congress Center. As a novelty, there was no prologue since the initial stage was over 8 km and was considered a stage.
That year saw Lance Armstrong's seventh consecutive win, surpassing his own record for French round wins set the previous year. However, in 2012 the UCI decided to annul all the American's results since 1998 due to doping, so that the 2005 edition was officially declared without a winner.

Jan Ullrich sanctioned
In 2012 Jan Ullrich was sanctioned and disqualified from his results from May 2005 until his withdrawal in 2007 due to blood transfusions related to Operation Puerto. Other runners who were involved in said doping scheme were not disqualified from This race and its sanctions came from 2006 when said plot came to light. It was the case of Francisco Mancebo, who would climb to third place on the podium with the disqualification of Ullrich.
However, the official website of the Tour has not withdrawn Ullrich from the record to date.
Sanction for Armstrong and his former teammates
Following the lifetime ban and disqualification of all results of Lance Armstrong from 1998 to 2005, on October 26, 2012, the UCI declared "vacant" the 7 Tour de France that he had won, as well as the stages that he had won. Wins by teammates David Zabriskie, George Hincapie and Levi Leipheimer were also disqualified and withdrawn.
