Torpedo (film)
Torpedo (Run Silent, Run Deep) is a 1958 war film directed by Robert Wise and Starring Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. It is based on the novel of the same name by Edward L. Beach, Jr.
Synopsis
It is World War II, a submarine is in Zone Seven, the Straits of Bungo close to the Japanese coasts, when sinking an oil tanker from a convoy it is attacked by a Japanese destroyer hunting submarines, when it evades it a collision alarm sound, a torpedo touches it and it sinks, only its commander and some men are saved and are rescued by a friendly ship.
Commander Richardson, a survivor who had led that submarine sunk by the Japanese, takes charge of another Gato-class submarine, the new submarine is called Nerka, of the US fleet, to carry carry out another dangerous mission on the Japanese shores. Richardson subjects the crew to hard tests of surface attack tactics without understanding the reason for the orthodox forms of attack. Richardson and his brand new Captain Jim Bledsoe and second-in-command are in conflict over initial tactics and orders and Richardson's desire to eliminate the Japanese destroyer that caused their earlier ruin puts them on the brink of destruction.
