Top-posting

Top-posting is the convention to respond electronic emails or other messages above the original message.

The correct order in this discussion, always according to their detractors, would be:

Because this makes it easier to follow up on the subject.

However, it is a valid mode of conversation, in those areas where the convention is adopted, given that the reader does not expect the reverse flow of information.

Many users perform top-posting due to the default configuration of their email clients, such as the fact that new information is visible without having to view the entire message. This has resulted in many users globally adopting this response convention as natural, and today it is one of the most used by common users.

Top-Posting is a convention, in the same way as Bottom-posting or Interleaved-Posting (response between the lines). Although the cautious user is able to detect the convention under which a thread is responded to, adopting a convention explicitly is recommended.

For many users and in certain circles, Top-Posting is not a simple alternative convention but rather an erroneous or inappropriate way of responding. However, it is a point on which there is currently no agreement, as the history of this same article attests.

In general, in mailing lists, news groups and forums, top-posting should be avoided by explicit convention or inherited custom. It is considered preferable, and in some cases mandatory, to respond between the lines of the questions or comments one by one, or below the referred text, as is done in the example above.

This is a consequence of both the customs inherited from users of old email clients and the rules established for writing most Western languages, including the Spanish language^{[citation required]}.
