In Greek mythology it is the name of two goddesses:

  • Tetis, daughter of Uranus and Gea, wife of Ocean and mother of the Oceanid Ninphas.
  • Tetis, the most famous of the Nereidas, the daughter of Nereo and Doris, the wife of Peleo and the mother of Achilles.

In astronomy, it can refer to:

  • Tetis, a satellite from the planet Saturn.
  • (17) ThetisAn asteroid from the asteroid belt.

In geology

  • Sea of Tetis, an ocean that formerly extended from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean.
  • The Paleo-Tetis Ocean, the predecessor ocean of the previous one between the Ordovic and Triassic period.
  • Ocean Proto-Tetis, the predecessor ocean of the former between the Ediacárico and Carboniferous period.
  • Tetis Fosa, ocean pit in the northern part of the Tetis ocean.
