The world in his hands (The World in His Arms) is a 1952 American film of the adventure genre, in this case maritime.

The film, from a screenplay by Borden Chase based on the 1946 novel of the same name by Rex Beach, was directed by Raoul Walsh for Universal Studios. Music is by Frank Skinner; and photography, by Russell Metty. The main cast consists of Gregory Peck, Ann Blyth, and Anthony Quinn, with John McIntire, Carl Esmond, Andrea King, Eugenie Leontovich, Hans Conried, and Sig Ruman.

Plot

The action takes place in 1850, and follows the adventures of Captain Jonathan Clark (Gregory Peck), known as "the man from Boston". Captain Clark is a daring and intrepid sealer from the San Francisco harbor, and owner of a schooner called The Pilgrim, from Salem, which dodges the Russians to enter Alaska. This sea lion has the audacity to plan to buy Alaska from the Russians, and for this he makes a deal with the San Francisco bankers. However, those plans will be altered by the appearance in her life of the Russian countess Marina Selanova (Ann Blyth), with whom he falls in love, believing her to be a simple lady-in-waiting.
