The tabare
La Tabaré Banda, also formerly known as La Tabaré Riverock Banda or later La Tabaré Milongón Banda, is a Uruguayan art- rock that has fused rock and blues with popular song and theater. The band was formed in 1985 in Montevideo, around the singer, composer, actor and writer Tabaré Rivero and remains active until today without interruption. It often combines the mixture of folk instruments with all musical genres and sub-genres, with an electric power trio base, with theatrical representation and the poetic-ideological search. It was said that La Tabaré Banda could be the link between the Uruguayan rock of the '70s, Popular Song and Uruguayan rock of the '80s. The group has released a total of fourteen albums, a VHS home video, a feature film and a double DVD.
History
Beginnings
La Tabaré Banda was founded in April 1985, when they performed at the Teatro del Carro, a street theater that was in Plaza Libertad. Its first official presentation was made in November of that year at the Teatro Circular in a cycle called "Kafé –Koncér". This first formation was made up of Tabaré J. Rivero, Andrea Davidovics, Javier Silvera, Álvaro Pintos and Ricardo Musso.
In the second half of the 1980s they successfully joined the rock scene and participated in the most important festivals of the genre such as Montevideo Rock 1 and 2, in which they shared the stage with international artists. In that decade they released their first two albums, Sigue ser rocanrol and Rocanrol de arrabal.
1990s
In the 1990s they began to combine rock with theater, premiering La opera de la mala leche and Qué-te-comics-te. In 1992 they released the album Placeres del sado-musiquismo and in 1994 they released Aim... fire!!. In 1995 they performed the cycle El Acusticón, an acoustic show with alternative instruments to those of rock, such as the charango, recorder, yerbomatophone, bandoneon, Peruvian cajón, Venezuelan cuatro and cavaquinho and always adding to music theatrical stage interventions. In this year, Tabaré Rivero published the book 10 years of success for the dope, which reviews the history of the first ten years of La Tabaré. In the remainder of the 1990s they recorded the albums Yoganarquía and Que te recontra and presented the operetta Putrefashion.
2000 to the present day
In 2002 they recorded Sopita de gansos, an acoustic album, which was criticized by the more orthodox rocker public. In 2003 they released the album of rarities Archivoteca of rescuantescanticos and poemazacotes. In 2004 18 años vivos was released, an album that was recorded live at the ND Ateneo Theater in Buenos Aires. In 2004, 2006 and 2007 they participated in the Pilsen Rock festival. In 2006 they recorded the album Chapa, pintura, lifting in Chile and premiered the operetta Zooledades -Sinphonetta inphinitta, which they presented in five performances at Sala Zitarrosa.
In 2007 they performed at the mega Festival Vive-Latino, in Santiago de Chile, and performed a couple of times in Spain (Barcelona and Valencia). In 2008 the documentary La Tabaré, rocanrol y después was released and they recorded the album Cabarute. In 2009 the operetta La Micción premiered, with the participation of La Tabaré along with the cast of the National Comedy.
In 2010 they celebrated their 25th anniversary, in the “Kabarét la Tabarék” cycle, with eleven performances at Espacio Guambia and the double CD Historical Collection went on sale. In 2011 they performed the “Varietè” cycle, with 12 performances at the Victoria Theatre. In 2012 the double DVD "Neither stars nor shooting" and "Sightings". 2013 they continue to perform in the “Tête à tête” cycle, rotating in various rooms and nightclubs, culminating with 5 performances at the Circular Theater. In 2014 they published the album Que reventen los artistas. and they toured Spain with 6 performances (Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Pamplona, Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid). In Uruguay they present the cycle "Que reventen!" with 4 performances in the Hugo Balzo room and 2 in the Solis Theater, together with the M. Inthamoussú Dance Company. In 2015 they celebrated their thirtieth anniversary, with multiple performances in Montevideo and the interior of the country, culminating with a performance at the Teatro de Verano. In 2017 they released the album Blues de los esclavos de ahora. In February 2020, they did a show inside the COMPEN Detention Center, an experience similar to the one they had already carried out in 2016, acting inside Unit No. 6 of the Punta de Rieles Prison.
And they continue to perform at festivals and concert venues in Montevideo and in the interior of the country, as well as in Argentina.
