Plot

Princess Alexandra (Grace Kelly) lives with her mother and younger siblings in a country palace. A distant cousin, Prince Albert (Alec Guinness), announces her visit. His true intention is to get to know Princess Alexandra up close, since he is looking for a wife for her and has not found her despite having traveled throughout Europe. Princess Alexandra falls in love with her brothers' teacher (Louis Jourdan) and is determined to elope with him. However, Prince Albert, who is understanding of her, makes her see that he has to decide between the duty that her birth imposes on him and a love that in the long run may lack foundation.
