The night of the generals
The Night of the Generals (in French, La Nuit des généraux; in English, The Night of the Generals) is a Franco-British film directed by Anatole Litvak released in 1967. The film production is based on a novel of the same name by the German writer Hans Hellmut Kirst.
Plot
A thriller set during World War II about a Nazi general who becomes a serial killer. A prostitute appears brutally murdered in Nazi-occupied Warsaw in December 1942. Major Grau is in charge of investigating the case, since the woman was a German agent. In his investigation, he discovers that the murderer is a general, although he does not know who. The investigation narrows the number of suspects to three generals; General Tanz, who arrived in Warsaw on the day of the assassination, General von Seydlitz-Gabler, commander of the 7th Corps, and General Kahlenberge, von Seydlitz-Gabler's chief of staff. For two years, the crime remains unsolved, until the criminal acts again in July 1944, in Paris, once again bringing the disturbing mystery to light.
