The Light at the Edge of the World
The Light at the Edge of the World (in Spain, La luz del fin del mundo; in Mexico and Venezuela, The Lighthouse at the End of the World) is a film directed by Kevin Billington and based on the novel The Lighthouse at the End of the World, by Jules Verne.
The exteriors were shot in Spain, in Cabo de Creus, on the Costa Brava, a few km from Cadaqués. At the end of the cape, beyond the lighthouse, a tower was built to represent the lighthouse called the End of the World, in eastern Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), the inspiration for the novel, and which was demolished a few years ago. years to restore the landscape to its original appearance.
However, the tower in the film differs from the original San Juan de Salvamento lighthouse (known colloquially as the end of the world lighthouse), as it was actually a relatively low wooden structure.
Plot
Pirates under the command of Kongre (Yul Brynner) raid a lighthouse on a rocky island, killing all but one employee, Will Denton (Kirk Douglas), who manages to escape. His plan is to turn off the light in the lighthouse and wait for a ship to sink to get the loot. Denton tries to stop the pirates from going through with his plan. A ship has already run aground and Arabella (Samantha Eggar), a young woman who managed to survive the slaughter of the pirates, wants to help put an end to them too.
