The hawk and the arrow
The Falcon and the Arrow (The Flame and the Arrow) is a 1950 American adventure film directed by Jacques Tourneur.
It is one of two films in which Burt Lancaster, accompanied by Nick Cravat, his old partner and friend from his days in the circus, performs all kinds of acrobatic feats without being dubbed. The other would be The fearsome mocker (The Crimson Pirate, 1952), directed by Robert Siodmak.
Plot
In the 12th century, Lombardy finds itself tyrannized by a German count, nicknamed "The Falcon". But in the mountains there is resistance, which harasses the count as much as he can. Years ago, Francesca (Lynn Baggett) had abandoned Dardo (Burt Lancaster) in favor of the Count, who has not yet joined the resistance. However, when the count kidnaps his little son (that he had with Francesca), things change. Dardo joins the resistance and will fight to free the little one from him.
Awards
The film had two Oscar nominations: for Best Music and Best Cinematography.
