The Elgar Sisters was an Icelandic group created by Guðlaugur Kristinn Óttarsson (GKÓ) and Björk Guðmundsdóttir in 1983 in parallel to the KUKL group to which they belonged.
The name of the group refers to the English composer Edward Elgar, who inspired the style of their songs. This name was suggested by Mel Jefferson, who had thought the title "Mother" to the project. Óttarsson composed, sometimes with Björk, all the songs, so this group could be considered a duet project between them. In addition to Óttarsson on electric and acoustic guitar, and Björk on vocals and clavichord; other musicians also participated: Sigtryggur Baldursson, Birgir Mogensen, Einar Melax, Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson (HÖH) and Þorsteinn Magnússon.

The members of The Elgar Sisters broke up in 1986 shortly after KUKL broke up and despite recording 11 songs they never released an album. However some songs came out on releases from Björk's and Guðlaugur's solo careers.
