The Dillinger Escape Plan
The Dillinger Escape Plan was an American metalcore band from Morris Plains, New Jersey and formed in March 1997 by Ben Weinman (guitar), Adam Doll (bass) and Chris Pennie (drums).
History
In April of the same year, the band added vocalist Dimitri Minakakis and recorded their debut, a mini CD that demonstrated the quartet's eclectic way of taking the hardcore sound much further, with any tool at your disposal: from jazz and Latin rhythms to industrial atmospheres.
Shortly thereafter they added guitarist John Fulton and recorded the EP Under the Running Board. In November 1998, Brian Benoit replaced Fulton, thus giving way to the start of recording for the band's first LP, entitled Calculating Infinity and released in September 1999.
Minakakis left the band in 2001 and was replaced by Greg Puciato as vocalist in 2002. That same year they recorded an EP with Mike Patton, titled Irony Is A Dead Scene. In mid-2004 they released their second album entitled Miss Machine. Currently the sound of DEP is a strange, incredible [citation needed] and virtuoso amalgamation of jazz sounds, hardcore punk violence and melodies heavy metal, which make it a unique group of its kind and together with bands like Converge, Cave In and Botch, make up the nascent current of noisecore.
His third album Ire Works would be released on November 5 in Europe and on November 13 in the US in 2007 on the Relapse Records label. In this album its founder and drummer Chris Pennie would not participate. It debuted on the Billboard 200 at number 142 with more than 7,000 copies sold, a figure that was later corrected to 11,000 when Relapse also counted pre-release sales.
Option Paralysis would be their fourth studio album released in March 2010, through their own record company, Party Smasher Inc. This is the band's first album with Billy Rymmer as drummer.
3 years later the band would release their fifth album One of Us Is the Killer published by Sumerian Records. This is considered to be "...the definitive settlement of all that The Dillinger Escape Plan has been. From chaotic displays of instruments to less direct, almost melodic moments."
Dissociation, released in 2016, is the band's latest album to be reissued by their record company Party Smashers Inc, and produced by Cooking Vinyl.
