The Cure is the twelfth studio album by the British alternative rock band The Cure, released in 2004. It was the first album released by the new label of The Cure, Geffen Records after having closed his stage with Chris Parry's label, Fiction Records. The album was the fourth to follow the series of albums released every four years, started with Wish in 1992.

Background

In the picture, drawings made by children similar to those used to illustrate the cover of the homonymous disk that was made by Robert Smith's nephews and nephews.

The Cure prepared their return with Geffen Records after ending their record deal with Chris Parry's label, Fiction Records. The band waited 28 years of their career to release their self-titled album, with which they wanted to open a new stage in their discography.[citation required]

The person in charge of the revival of the band was the nu metal producer, Ross Robinson, who when he met Robert Smith told him that before he died he had to produce an album with The Cure.[citation needed]

Recording

The album was recorded in six weeks and mixed in three days with no post-production. The band performed almost the entire album live, which Ross Robinson, Steve Evetts and Smith himself did minimal mixing in the studio, Robinson's meticulous pre-production process was such that he ended up stressing the group. Bassist Simon Gallup came to declare in this connection that he wanted to break Robinson's teeth.

Style

The album gave off the classic but still peculiar pop sound of the group, in its eminently dark style. The band moved through untraveled places in their previous discography, undoubtedly influenced by the presence of Ross Robinson. On this album Robert Smith proposed direct lyrics and melodies that, in some way, reviewed the previous life of the group, with musical passages that referred to works such as Pornography or Disintegration. In this way, with the always essential pop songs and even the densest passages in which Smith, hurt, screamed into the microphone while the music created depressive atmospheres. Smith himself said of the album:

"If this album doesn't like people, then they don't like The Cure. »

To promote the album, the band went on a world tour, spanning various locations in Europe and America.

The first copies of the album were a special edition that included a DVD titled The Making of The Cure, which included various video recordings of the recording sessions for the album, as well as various extra stuff.

This album had the peculiarity that it was recorded live. The band rehearsed for several months until it was captured as if they were performing it live.

Reception

The Cure debuted in the Top 10 in the UK and US.

The album sold 2 million copies worldwide.
