The bodyguard
The Bodyguard is a 1992 American romantic film directed by Mick Jackson. In it the main protagonist is played by Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.
Plot
Bodyguard Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) was a United States Secret Service agent who once protected American presidents like Ronald Reagan. During the assassination attempt on President Reagan, Frank was absent from his office due to the death of his mother. As a consequence, Frank was left with remorse for not having been able to prevent the attack and decided to leave the Secret Service by becoming a paid bodyguard. Devaney (Bill Cobbs) hires him to protect actress and singer Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston). She is receiving death threats from an anonymous assassin. Farmer organizes all the security at her mansion; However, Rachel, with an arrogant and reckless attitude, contradicts him on several occasions, making a great barrier between them, as Farmer is a disciplined and professional person, while Rachel, due to his glamorous life, feels safe and dominant. In addition, Farmer must endure the rejections of Sy and Tony, other collaborators of hers, who consider Farmer to be paranoid.
Despite this, their mutual attraction leads to an intimate relationship. However, after this Farmer, not wanting to mix his work with pleasure, breaks up with Rachel and she becomes severely angry with him. Once in Miami, where Rachel is to present an AIDS benefit concert, Farmer runs into a former classmate, Greg Portman (Tomas Arana), whom he becomes suspicious of. He tries to seduce Rachel but she doesn't agree to sleep with him. Right there, Rachel receives another telephone threat and it causes her to finally agree to collaborate with her bodyguard who, at this point, protects her out of love more than because of her job.
Farmer takes Rachel, her sister Nicky, and their eight-year-old son Fletcher, as well as their driver to a cabin on the outskirts of town; However, an attempted attack on a boat almost kills Fletcher, after which they discover that they have been trapped and held incommunicado in the cabin, so they will not be able to escape until the other day. That night, feeling guilty because Fletcher was nearly killed, Nicky confesses to Farmer that her envy for her sister led her to anonymously hire an assassin, paying him in advance to make every attempt to kill her. However, this does not stop the killer from attacking that night and murdering Nicky, unaware that he is his employer, and then being forced to escape from Farmer. After the attack, they return to Los Angeles for Nicky's funeral, where Rachel is also preparing for the Oscars for having been nominated for best actress, although everyone is aware that the murderer will take advantage of the occasion.
Arriving at the Academy Awards, Farmer meets Greg Portman again, discovering that he is the assassin hired by Nicky to murder Rachel. When she is proclaimed the winner and takes the stage to give her speech, Portman takes advantage of that moment to complete her mission by camouflaging her infrared sighted weapon into a camcorder. Farmer notices and steps himself in front of Rachel; as a consequence of this, Farmer receives the bullet impact, leaving him unconscious, but not before killing Portman with his last strength.
In the last scene, Rachel is seen boarding a plane but not before saying goodbye to Farmer, saying "Bye, forever goodbye. There the hit romantic song I Will Always Love You from the film's soundtrack begins to be heard. Rachel steps off the plane into Farmer's arms and the two kiss passionately.
Some time later, Frank is seen, already recovered from his injuries, at a political meeting and right there he is back at his job with the Secret Service, now protecting a congressman.
