History
The origins of El Bodón go back to the repopulation carried out in the Middle Ages by the kings of León, being integrated into the jurisdiction of Ciudad Rodrigo, then calling the town simply Bodón. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, El Bodón was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region.
Fight of El Bodón
El Bodón was the place of the battle that took place on September 25, 1811, between the French troops and the allies under the command of Wellington, made up of English, Portuguese and Spanish troops. During the action the French cavalry took 2 pieces of Portuguese artillery, but the English 5th Infantry Regiment, in an act devoid of logic, charged against the French cavalry and recovered the pieces. The following day the armies found themselves in the position of Guinaldo or Fuenteguinaldo, Wellington declining the fight and withdrawing to Portugal.
