Territorial organization of El Salvador

The administrative division of El Salvador, according to the Constitution of the Republic of this country, consists of the fragmentation into departments for its political administration. Each of them is successively subdivided into municipalities that are governed by the Municipal Councils, directly elected every three years by the citizens registered in the respective municipal constituency.
The fourteen departments are grouped as follows:
