The Terrassa Futbol Club, with various names throughout its history, is a historic Catalan sports center in the city of Tarrasa (Barcelona). It was founded specifically in 1906.

The club plays in the RFEF Second Division in the 2022-2023 season. Terrassa FC has 4 Catalonia Cups in football in its record -the highest Catalan title-, as main titles. Despite playing 15 seasons in the Second Division, the Egarense team has never been able to play in the highest category of Spanish football. Its classic rival is Sabadell, due to the eternal duel shared by these two neighboring cities. This confrontation is due to the fact that the two cities share the capital status of the Catalan region of Vallés Occidental, something unprecedented in Spain.

History

In 1902 the first football match was played in Tarrasa, by students of the Industrial School. In 1906 a group of these young people created the Young's Club on the grounds of En Belil. Two years later it was renamed Terrassa Foot-Ball Club, which in 1911 became Terrassa Futbol Club.

Early years of the club's life

In its first decade, the club participates in many friendly matches and championships, highlighting the prestigious Red Room Cup, won against Salut FC. The first documented match dates back to January 22, 1911, a friendly in which the Young's Club beat the Lawn Tennis Club 9-0. In 1917, Terrassa won three trophies: the Ramón Torras Cup, the Graphic Day Cup and the Sport Cup, and faced FC Barcelona twice, the Egarenses winning 1-0 and 2-1 in both games. A year later, in 1919, he beat the then unbeaten Spanish champion, FC Barcelona, 2-1 in the city's Mayor's Cup. In 1924 the first official match was played between Terrassa FC and F. C. Barcelona, with a 0-1 victory from Egarense (Gol de Gracia) at the Camp de Les Corts. A game was also played against RCD Español, with a 2-1 local victory. In 1925, Terrassa obtained its first Catalonia Cup, then one of the most important competitions in Spain. In fact, the Tarrasa Fútbol Club won the first two editions in the history of the Catalonia Cup: that of 1925 (in the decisive match they beat CD Sabadell 2-0, on December 6, 1925, with goals from Pedrol and Argemí) and that of 1936 (they beat Martorell, CD Sabadell, Vic, FC Barcelona and Gerona FC in the final, 3-2, on June 28, 1936, with goals from Egarense by Colomer, Nieto and Malón) (3) (4). In 1926, 1930 and 1933 Terrassa FC (Hockey Section, belonging to the entity until the 1960s) won the Catalan Field Hockey Championships (maximum Catalan title). In 1933 Terrassa FC won its first Spanish Field Hockey Championship (the highest Spanish title, the only one possible at that time) after beating Atlético de Madrid 3-0 in the final held in Terrassa.

The brilliant post-war years: an avalanche of titles in field hockey to lead the list of winners of Vallès

The Civil War caused the competition to stop. Once finished, the hard post-war years began, where economically and socially all the clubs tried to survive. In 1942 Terrassa FC won the Federation President's Cup. In the field hockey section, Terrassa FC was a spectacular success: they won all the Catalonia Championships (the highest Catalan title) from 1940 to 1950. They also won the Catalonia Championship in 1952, 1953, 1956 and 1959. In addition, they won the Catalonia Women's Field Hockey Championship of 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1962. Terrassa FC won the Spanish Field Hockey Championships (maximum Spanish title) in 1943, 1945, 1946, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951 and 1955. Terrassa FC also won the Spanish Indoor Hockey Championship (maximum Spanish title) in 1961. To round off some inimitable milestones, they won the Spanish Women's Field Hockey Championship (maximum Spanish title) in 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1962 and other titles in various sections. In soccer, Terrassa FC won the Third League 1953-54 and 1961-62. In 1960, Terrassa FC left the Obispo Irurita field (in the current Pi i Margall street) and moved to the Campo de la Zona Deportiva, which opened with a match against Sevilla, with a final result of 2-4.. The first Terrassista goalscorer at the new stadium was Campos. That same season, Fútbol Club Barcelona eliminated Terrassa from the Cup by winning 4-2 at the Camp Nou in front of more than 80,000 spectators.

Terrassa is reborn again

Already in the seventies, Josep Masdefiol is elected as the new president of Tarrassa, to which he will give a great economic and sporting boost. Masdefiol creates the first Ciutat de Terrassa International Football Trophy, during which the new artificial lighting towers are inaugurated, and in which teams such as Bayern Munich, Real Zaragoza and the Hungarian Ferencváros participate. That same year a hymn contest was called for the club. Of the six originals received, Vicenç Villatoro's was chosen as the club's official anthem, currently known as the Centennial Anthem. Terrassa FC won the Third Division League (equivalent to the current Second B) in 1967-68, 1969-70 and 1974-75.

Josep Masdefiol steps down as president and leaves the club with almost 7,000 members and the first team in the Second Division, as he had promised.

On April 16, 1977, the Egarense team organized a friendly match against the starting team of Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, witnessed by more than 20,000 spectators, which ended with a 1-3 win for the visitors. The eighties were especially terrible for the club. Even so, the team managed to eliminate the Real Club Deportivo Español from the Cup, drawing at the Estadio de Sarriá and winning at the Olímpico.

The team seems to come out of the crisis

On July 14, 1983, the club had just 924 members, of which financially 33 attended the club's assembly, in which a budget of 16 million pesetas was approved. The club seems to be coming out of the crisis: achieving the fourth consecutive Catalan Under-23 Championship (unprecedented milestone) and ascending to Second Division B, a category in which it has played for two seasons. However, in 1989, the team went down to the Third Division, and in the following season it went down to Regional Preferred, there is speculation about the end of the entity. In the end, thanks to the actions of the various subsequent meetings, the club comes out on top.

Disappointment in Malaga

In 1997, the City Council and several local companies intervened financially again, paying the outstanding chips of the first team players. The mayor meets with various local businessmen and the decision is made to promote the club economically and sportingly, as well as to convert it into a Public Limited Sports Company in the medium term. Terrassa FC ends the season in third position, behind Fútbol Club Barcelona B and Real Club Deportivo Mallorca B, and secures a place in the promotion group to Segunda, in which it is paired with Talavera, Beasáin and Málaga CF, the latter being the one who finally ascended.

Promotion to Segunda, memorable years, centenary 2006

Monty, Terrassa player between 2000 and 2006.

In the 2001-2002 season, under the guidance of Miguel Álvarez, Tarrassa finished in fifth position, but the relegation of Zaragoza's first team helped the club play in the play-off for promotion to Segunda A, which he resolved with 6 victories out of 6 possible, a record that he still holds. That same year, Terrassa won their third Catalonia Cup, beating FC Barcelona on penalties after the game ended in a one-goal draw (Monty scored for Terrassa FC) at the end of 90 minutes. The result in the penalty shootout was 4-1. This success coincided with the celebration of the Soccer Centenary in Terrassa (2002).

In the 2002-2003 season, a very good first round was completed in the return to the 2nd Division A, which was 'awarded' with Real Madrid-Terrassa in the Cup. Terrassa gave a great image and lived an unforgettable night thanks to Monty (the result of the match was 3-3). In addition, a new Catalonia Cup (the fourth) was won against Gavá in the Nova Creu Alta field in the year of Sabadell's centenary by 3-0 (two goals from Keko and one from Besora) and finally permanence was achieved. against Leganés in a memorable night with 13,000 spectators who filled the Olímpic stands with color and where even the stairs were full of people. At the moment, Terrassa FC is the only club from Vallès that has won the maximum Catalan title (4 Catalonia Cups -1925, 1936, 2002, 2003- as the maximum title; since 2014-15 it has been the Catalonia Super Cup).

During 2006, already in Segunda B, Terrassa commemorated its centenary.

Unfortunately and after mismanagement by the old boards of directors, Terrassa F.C. SAD was relegated in the 09/10 season to the third division. Finishing a disastrous year in 2nd B where he was last in his group, far from salvation, with a very tight squad he occupies the bottom position from start to finish, adding only six wins and seven draws throughout the tournament, a very short baggage for their survival in the category.

2009 - 2020 New name change for Terrassa FC, birth of Terrassa Olímpica 2010 and difficult years.

Terrassa F.C. for a few years before the decline it is a modern society, although its economy begins to suffer too many ups and downs that make it plummet. Product of these economic ills, the loss of sporting potential is increasingly evident and the rankings are further behind. At the beginning of 2009, while the club was under the presidency of Kiko Sánchez, it came under the effect of the Bankruptcy Law due to a debt contracted that is estimated to be around three million euros, reaching the end of the season with a debt on the players of about three hundred and fifty thousand euros. They denounce the club and given the unfeasibility of the project, the magistrate of the Mercantile Court decrees the liquidation of the S.A.D. Immediately afterwards, the productive unit and the place in Second Division B are put up for auction, to which three candidates opt, being that of Terrassa F.C. Sports S.L. led by Kiko Sánchez (the other two are that of Anabel Junyent backed by the Terrassa F.C. Foundation and the third Promosport S.L.), who acquired the rights through an auction held on June 29, 2009 for only six thousand euros and satisfying the debt contracted with the players.

The acquisition by the company Terrassa Fútbol Club Sports S.L. means a revolution in the competitive field and especially in football thanks to the controversial decision of judge José María Ribelles Arellano, head of the Mercantile Court of Barcelona No. 2 that is handling the case, since this sentence means an unprecedented case in football Spanish by granting the regency of a sports club to a limited company, an act contrary to the rules established by the Sports Law that establish that no club with a commercial legal form, be it a Public Limited Company or Limited Company, can participate in the professional football category. In other words, given the semi-professional nature of Second Division B and the commercial nature of the new club, the company's rectors skilfully take advantage of this legal loophole and manage to compete in Second Division B by only paying the rights to the place plus the debts with respect to the players., getting rid of doing the same with creditors. The RFEF, defeated by the Barcelona magistrate, has no choice but to comply with the court order and admit the Egarense club into the category for the 09/10 campaign, studying to modify its regulations as soon as possible to prevent events like this from returning in the future. to be repeated.

The new club, called Terrassa Olímpica 2010 S.A.D., remains as Terrassa F.C. thanks to the acquisition of the name at the auction. Sportingly, the 09/10 session is chaos for the new rojilla entity and with a very tight squad they occupy the bottom position from start to finish, adding only six wins and seven draws throughout the tournament, a very short baggage for their survival in the category. His future is not very flattering and mired in the Third Division, difficult years are expected.

In the 2010-2011 season, after being relegated to the Third Division, Terrassa F.C. He had a very discreet season, in which he finished in twelfth place.

In the 2011-2012 season, Terrassa achieved a better position, although not enough to reach the top four positions. He was in seventh position, six points behind fourth place with 58 points.

In the 2013-2014 season, the team finally got fourth place in its Third Division group after a good season in which there was a three-way tie at 69 points with CE Europa and UE Rubí. In the play-offs for promotion to Second Division B, they lost in the first round against Linares Deportivo, with a 0-1 victory for Linares at the Terrassa Olímpic, with a goal by Rafa Payán and a 0-0 draw in Linares.

In the 2014-2015 season, the team disappeared again from the promotion play-offs, after a regular season, in which it finished in seventh position with 59 points.

In the 2016-2017 season, Terrassa achieved its best position in the Third Division after its last relegation, reaching third position after UE Olot and CF Peralada, who both ended up being promoted. The team got a good position in the table by adding 66 points. In the play-offs, they were eliminated in the first round again, but this time against Ontinyent CF. The first leg was played at El Clariano, where they tied 1-1 thanks to goals from the Terrassa FC player Velillas, and Doménech from Ontinyent, a very doubtful penalty where it is believed that the moment of the foul was outside the area. In the second leg, Ontinyent CF took the victory after a penalty goal, a very dubious penalty again as in El Clariano. From this moment on, the relationship between Tarrasa and Ontinyent has become totally toxic, after the fans of Tarrasa and Ontinyent fight over what happened in that playoff, a fight that the Egarenses started. Thanks to those dubious penalties, Ontinyent went from round to round until they ended up being promoted to Second B.

In the 2017-2018 season, they achieved the second consecutive play-off after finishing in fourth position with 64 points. This time they managed to get past the first round, in which they faced Mar Menor FC. In the first leg, David Toro scored from a penalty, and that earned Terrassa FC the advantage over Murcia. In the second leg, the tie was sealed by scoring two goals at El Pitín. In the second round, Terrassa faced SD Compostela. In the second leg, Terrassa took a good result to go to Galicia, as they won the match by 2 goals to 0. In the second leg the team let go of the advantage they had and lost by 3 goals to 0, the three goals were in the first part where a better-planned Compostela, collapsed and made mush to the Egarense team, although it cannot be said that the Egarense team did not try to turn it around since they were superior in the second part, where the Galician narrators themselves They were worried. Despite the fact that SD Compostela went through the next round, they would lose the next one and would not be promoted.

In the 2018-2019 season, Terrassa FC was in the upper zone. The women's beach soccer Terrassa FC won the Catalonian Championship.

In the 2019-20 campaign, Terrassa FC, which won the Historic Tournament in the final against Badalona (2-1, goals from Virgili and Lucas Viña), was at its best since participating in the Third division. Upon reaching the Coronavirus Pandemic and the stoppage at the sporting level due to Quarantine, Terrassa has finished as 2nd place in a league in which it has competed head to head for the lead against L'Hospitalet, although unfortunately, it lost the duel and Terrassa finished the league season in 2nd place with 53 points, 6 below the leader, L'Hospitalet. Despite losing that leadership, Terrassa reaches the playoffs in what has been its best season since it reached the Third Division in 2010 and it is said that it may be the year in which the club comes out of the "well". Despite beating Europa 1-0 in the semifinals of the playoff, they drew with l'Hospitalet in the final and due to sporting merit, when l'Hospitalet was ahead in the league, they were promoted.

In the 2020-21 season, Terrassa would carry out its eleventh season in the Third Division, looking again for a great result in the league season and, if there is a possibility, look for that long-awaited promotion, where Xevi Molist will continue for another year as coach in the egarense set.

2021 - New restructuring of Segunda B, 2nd RFEF, controversy with the federation, 115th anniversary.

Terrassa would start the season where it was expected, fighting for the top positions. Despite this, the positive streaks would be very important, since having a bad result in a single match, the declines and irregularities would begin until a better result was obtained. Morale would be the key to a talented but irregular team. The defeat against Valencia CF by 2-4 at home despite having been winning for 80 minutes by two goals in the first phase of the Copa del Rey, would cause them to have poor results during the next three games, where they lost two of them, and one of them against the bottom team (Montañesa) who had not yet won a match. Despite the already formed project, Xevi Molist would be replaced in the middle of the season just after the match against La Montañesa, by Juanjo García, who would be in charge of leading Terrassa until the end of the season. The team and the new coach himself would be discussed by the fans, because despite the fact that they won games, they did not measure up in important games. They finished the league season in third position, many points behind the two leaders, CE Europa and FC Vilafranca, but qualified for the promotion phase.

At the end of said promotion phase, the team was back in third position, but was promoted to Second RFEF since the regulations did not allow FC Vilafranca to be promoted as it was a team dependent on Lleida Esportiu that was already going to occupy a place in that category.

And the subsidiary (Fundació Terrassa FC 1906) was promoted to Tercera Catalana.

Exile to Can’Anglada

Due to the 2022 Women's Hockey World Cup, based in Terrassa, the Egarense club was forced to leave the Estadi Olímpic (for the second time in its history, the first time at Can Jofresa). The club, despite the controversy, decided to play at the Municipal de Can'Anglada, due to its proximity, thus sharing facilities with CP San Cristóbal. On the other hand, grassroots football and the lower categories also had to emigrate mainly to the new field of Les Fonts (during the first season of exile).

The first season in Can’Anglada, Terrassa established itself in the mid-table, finishing in 8th place, near the top of the table.

The following season the club returned to the Olímpic in December 2022, thus leaving Can’Anglada after a season and a half. Grassroots football also returned to l'Estadi, that is if it started the season playing mostly in the Campo del Bonaire, at this time, although the main facilities are the Olímpic, Terrassa continues to use the Municipal del Bonaire for different activities.

Sports and Women's Sections

It is worth noting the great and historical potential of Terrassa FC (formerly CD Terrassa) throughout its history, becoming one of the great national entities in different sports modalities. All this thanks to its multi-sports sections, some of which are still in the club today or hand in hand with other collaborating clubs, such as Hockey, the section with the most titles in the club's history that now continues under the name of Club Deportiu. Terrassa, (regular collaborator of the club), there is also Handball, with which in recent years many successes have been achieved in this new stage in the Club Handbol Terrassa, it is worth mentioning that the club has also had sections such as Skate Hockey (with the name SFERIC i Terrassa FC) also Athletics, or Cycling.

More recent sections are such as Women's Soccer, Futsal, Beach Soccer or eSports. We will start with the first, one of the most outstanding sections of the club, which in the beginning was in the Primera Iberdrola, yes, before it became a professional, the most recent of all the sections of the club is Futsal, it was born thanks to affiliations and mergers between several clubs in the city that decided to integrate into the Egarense club, it has a large school, which trains in various pavilions and sports centers in the city, it is worth noting the Sports Center of Las Arenas, which is where the offices of the section are and the Maurina Pavilion, which is where the amateur futsal matches are played, the first team is in the Catalan Division of Honor, one step away from state categories, the objective of the section is to reach Second B or Third Federation. Finally, there is Beach Soccer and eSports, the first was born in 2018 thanks to the Fundació Terrassa FC (a foundation belonging to the entity), but in 2021 it changed its name and became known as Terrassa Bonaire BSC, this change was due to The Bonaire Soccer School (school club of the Plà del Bonaire neighborhood) is one of the most intimate collaborators of the Egarense club, a branch of the Egarense club a few years ago, a club with which it currently has ties of collaboration in grassroots soccer, as in the transfer of facilities, which Terrassa uses for youth and youth football training. Created the same year as Futsal, there is the eSports or Electronic Sports Video Games section, which practice grew a lot during the pandemic.
